I took a bit of a chance and ordered the game Vanished Planet, a cooperative game published independently.  I've heard it is insanely difficult to win, but the mechanics and theme looked interesting enough to give it a try.  Hopefully I'll get a chance to try it this weekend, and I'll certainly report back when I do.

Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You didn't! ;-)

RCG has played this one twice I believe. Once with four and once with three. I was in the latter game and Doug was in both. I understand the bad, bad cloud lost both times. My impression was that there was a lost of fiddling with making change in the various resources and I had a hard time calculating what I needed and what I could do with the stuff I did have. I think Doug enjoyed it but it was a thumbs down for most of us.

Maybe you should ask Doug. I understand that the designer(s) play this games very frequently so your mileage may vary from mine.

I really need to get in the habit of asking before I buy anything :-). At least I got it for a decent discount off their list price. Jacob, Matthew, and I enjoy cooperative games, and they both like the space theme, so we'll see if it sticks.

Sorry Chris, I didn't mean to rain on your party. Like I said, I didn't like it but your mileage may vary. There are games I hate (very much dislike) that other in the group just love. And vice versa.

I have played the game and posted a report on my impressions on BGG. Check it out for some in-depth comments. Overall, not a bad game. We played with 5 players (mostly new to the game) and didn't really see the long playing time that others have complained about. I also like cooperative games and think this one works well in that regard but is not even in the same league as Lord of the Rings. Rings is much more fun and also more cooperative. One flaw I see in the game is that it will most likely have very limited replay value.
